St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru

St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, India, is a premier Catholic educational institution founded on 2 July 1921 by a great visionary Mother Mary Aloysia, the Second Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation. The College from its inception has imparted integral, value-based, and quality education to women who in turn have occupied responsible service-based positions in the Home and Society through their leadership and rich contribution.

The institution has the distinction of producing women graduates who hold positions in different spheres as educators, scientists, chartered accountants, middle and higher-level management, and service professionals.

The year 2020-2021 was a Milestone in the history of St Agnes College (Autonomous) Mangaluru, as it completed 100 years of its existence. It was a significant event for all to celebrate 100 glorious years of service in the field of Women’s Higher Education. To mark this significant event the college has welcomed the men student to give them equal opportunities as women to build their careers.

St Agnes College received the status of “College of Excellence” from the University Grants Commission in 2017. The college was the first one under Mangalore University to receive such recognition from the UGC.

St Agnes College has been assessed and accredited by NAAC with an ‘A+’ Grade with CGPA of 3.65 out of 4 in Cycle 4 in 2017. This is the first college in the whole country to go for 4th cycle reaccreditation.

The College has been awarded Star College Status by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Biotechnology, and Government of India for the outstanding progress made by the College in the field of Science and Technology.

The LIS Academy (Library & Information Science Academy) is a professional charitable Trust established to work for the development of the Profession and to assist Libraries with the state-of-the-art technology. The primary focus of the Academy is to provide need-based service to the different types of Libraries in the country and to work for the advancement of Library and Information Science (LIS) profession at large. St Agnes College Library and Information Centre ​

St Agnes College Library serves as the academic nerve center of the college. It plays a crucial role in supporting the educational and research needs of students, faculty, and researchers. The library is equipped with a vast collection of resources, including thousands of books, magazines, and journals, providing a rich repository of knowledge and information.

To stay updated with technological advancements, the college has implemented RFID Technology for resource security. Moreover, the library has embraced technology by upgrading its software to an advanced EasyLib Web 6.2a Version, facilitating access to electronic resources even beyond the campus. It also subscribes to  INFLIBNET -NLIST database and J-Gate Arts and Humanities Social Science database from Informatics India Ltd., Bangalore.The library also uses DrillBit plagiarism detection software.

Over the years, the library has taken proactive steps to organize various exhibitions, workshops, training programs, and seminars. These events are often conducted for promoting research culture among students, staff, and the general public. One noteworthy event is the celebration of Librarians Day, which takes place annually in August to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, considered the Father of Library Science. This celebration serves as a platform for organizing innovative programs and conferences to benefit students, local colleges, researchers, and the wider public. The library has also initiated the Digitization of Rare Collections in its library.

Overall, St. Agnes College Library continues to thrive as a hub of knowledge and innovation, constantly evolving to meet the needs of its diverse academic community.
